Back in the day, when my daughters were young they both loved the dentist. They argued at every visit about who should have the treat of going first. As the receptionist smiled benignly I used to think that she thought 'how sweeet' my little angels were. Looking back I can see that she found them a bit of a nightmare.
I was dragged back to those moments as I watched Grace and Lily argue as to who was to have Mars on their lap in the car first.
'Me first, then you' began Grace
'That's not fair' retaliated Lily, 'Me first.'
I stepped in quickly.
'Mars must go in the back, so you first Grace, then Lily you can swap over half way'.
'That's not fair,' came Lily's swift reply' I get car sick and have to sit in the front, so I won't get a turn..'
and so it went on. In the event it was Mars who was sick, all over Grace so Lily got more than her fair share. .
Secretly I quite enjoyed it all. It was fun having my two grown up daughters squabbling again. It took me back to some very happy times - was it really almost two decades ago?
