And two years have passed and Mars and I are no longer the suburban creatures that we were. Left behind is our chocolate box of friends and in their place are a wild tangle of sheep and border collies. Border collies with lean flanks and ferocious teeth. Mars who was king of his territory is now subdued and unhappy, he makes a dash for home where possible and failing that shivers nervously behind me. And I thought he would love the open fields and places to run and rabbits to chase. But rabbits confuse him, squirrels are his choice and when he spots a rabbit that shoots down a hole instead of up a tree his confusion is compounded. Poor Mars. I shall search out woods and streams where he can relax and try and make this move to the country a positive one.
